What You Need to Know About Premises Liability
Premises liability is a type of personal injury law that allows you to hold a property owner liable if a faulty or hazardous circumstance on the property caused you injuries. The expectations a property owner are expected to meet may include making sure that their property has:
- Enough lighting
- Properly working security gates
- Proper fencing
- Properly functioning security equipment
- Qualified security personnel
- Securely locked buildings and lobbies
If you are injured on someone else’s premise, negligence may be to blame. Therefore, you may want to retain a lawyer to pursue justice for your damages. Of course, whether you can collect damages at all will depend on your status on the property at the time of the accident (as the Florida Bar affirms).

What to Do After You Get Injured on Someone Else’s Property
If you sustain injuries on another person’s property, your top priority should be your health. You should seek medical attention as soon as you can, as it not only helps your recovery but also provides you with documentation of your injuries.
If you have not done so already, take photos of the accident scene and record a video from different angles. Additionally, it is vital to have witness accounts. Therefore, you should give the name and contact details of any eyewitness to your Lake Mary premises liability lawyer—if you have them. Your lawyer can follow up with these individuals to record their testimony and corroborate your side of the story.
It is also important to inform the owner of the premises of the accident. If you can file an incident report with the property owner, do so and ask for a copy of the document. Sometimes, there may be surveillance cameras that captured the incident. You can ask to review the video footage from the owner of the premises. Finally, consult your lawyer.
