- Courteous and respectful treatment
- Control over their private property
- As much independence as possible
- Control of their finances
- Opportunities for exercise and outings
- Appropriate health care as needed
- 45 days of notice prior to nursing home residence termination
- The right to file a complaint or grievance

Nursing Home Abuse Has a Lingering Effect
If your loved one experiences a bone fracture or a broken bone, they might have to undergo bone setting, immobilization, splinting, compression wraps, or surgical intervention in severe cases.
In addition to these medical treatments, elderly patients might struggle to heal from a bone injury. Broken bones can limit your loved one’s ability to remain fully or partially mobile and independent. When their breaks are due to abuse in a trusted setting, it can lead to difficulty coping with dependence on others.
According to the National Institute on Aging (NIA) research, the long-term harmful effects of nursing home abuse may include:
- Premature death
- Persistent fearfulness
- Sorrow and depression
- Unjustified guilt
If your loved one suffers from emotional and psychological damage after being abused in their nursing home, make sure to provide them with therapy that can help them cope with these lingering feelings. Our nursing home abuse team can help you learn more about including the costs of their therapy in your compensation claim.
