Florida Highway Patrol reported that a 30-year-old Jared Dodson was traveling east possibly beyond the speed limit on a Honda motorcycle along Davis Boulevard.
According to the report, a 69-year-old Barry Fesinstine of Bohemia, New York, was simultaneously driving a Toyota SUV west on Davis Boulevard. Fesinstine was approaching the intersection of Falling Waters Boulevard with his SUV, which is just west of Santa Barbara Boulevard.
Police reported that Fesinstine’s view of Dodson on his motorcycle was obstructed by an eastbound vehicle. Consequently, Fesinstine began turning left on south and entered into the path of the motorcycle that had the right of way, FHP said.
Report says Dodson motorcycle struck the SUV’s front passenger door and caused the two-wheeler to flip onto its left side. FHP reported that the SUV came to a stop on a grassy shoulder along a lane of Falling Waters southwest of the collision.
According to the police, Jared Dodson was pronounced dead at the scene and Fesinstine was taken by EMS to NCH Downtown Hospital and was in serious condition.
State police said that the eastbound lanes of Davis Boulevard were closed for about three hours to allow for investigation and scene clearing. The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
