Sinkholes in Fort Lauderdale, FL
A sinkhole is a depression in the ground that occurs when the surface layer of soil collapses. According to the Insurance Information Institute (III), insurers make separate policies and/or add a clause to homeowners and renters insurance relating to sinkholes. Sinkholes typically occur in the southeastern United States hence why Florida and Tennessee are required to include sinkholes as a part of homeowners’ insurance. Sinkhole insurance is reflective in the insurance rates and contracts of Floridians, under Florida Statute § 627.706. However, this does not mean that negotiating with your insurance company will be easy.
At the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine, we understand what strategies insurance companies take on to deny or undervalue covered losses. Call us today at 1-800-747-3733.
Challenges of Sinkhole Claims in Florida
We strive to protect our clients against bad faith insurance practices that can impede the recovery process.
Here are a few of the challenges you might face in recovering compensation from your insurer:
- Delayed payments. Some homeowners’ insurance companies in Florida are known to stall payments to policyholders. Floridians are protected by the Homeowner Claims Bill of Rights, under Florida Statutes § 627.7142 according to the Florida Department of Financial Services. It outlines the timeframe during which insurers must either accept or deny a case. A Fort Lauderdale sinkhole property claim lawyer can work with your insurance company to make sure that they comply with these deadlines.
- Claim denials. Your homeowners’ insurance company may deny your claim, alleging that the damage to your home resulted not from a sinkhole but from something else that may not be covered under your policy. Our team can read the fine print of your contract to get the coverage you need to make repairs to your home.
- Undervaluing your case. Another common tactic of homeowners’ insurance companies is to approve claims, but for a lower amount than the policyholder deserves. We can estimate the value of your damages and help you agree to an offer that accurately covers your expenses.
After such a traumatic incident, you deserve to be treated with care and respect. Our dedicated legal professionals can strive to have your damages covered under your insurance policy. If we cannot reach a fair settlement with your insurer, we have no problem representing you in court. Call the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine at 1-800-747-3733.
