Pedestrian Severely Injured In Chain Reaction Crash

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said a pedestrian suffered serious injuries in a crash on Thursday.

According to JSO, Deputies responded to a severe traffic crash at 12800 N. Main St.

At 4:47 p.m. officers responded to a retail theft call at the 13200 block of City Station Drive.

At 4:56 p.m. officers located an SUV that matched the vehicle used in the retail theft at 13100 N. Main Street and conducted a traffic stop.

The driver of the SUV fled southbound on North Main Street and officers did not pursue in accordance with JSO policy.

The SUV veered into the northbound lane and hit a truck with one occupant. Due to the rear-end collision, the truck swerved and hit a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The occupant in the truck did not sustain any injuries.

The suspects in the SUV fled on foot and were later caught.

JSO has not released any descriptions of the suspects or what was stolen during the retail theft.

Traffic Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

A different route of travel is recommended as the investigation wraps up.
