The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating an accident on Metro Parkway which led to the death of a woman and injured a man.

Troopers said a head on collision occurred in Fort Myers. The crash happened on Metro Parkway just north of Forest Lake Town Homes.

Crash reports say a 2007 Mitsubishi pickup was traveling southbound on Metro Parkway when it approached a curve in the road. It crossed into the northbound lane and crashed head on into a 2008 Honda CRV, officials said.

The police identified the driver of the pickup as a 28 year old man from Sunset Park.

Reported says a 71 year old woman was driving the Honda CRV. Officials say despite wearing a seatbelt, she was pronounced dead at the scene by the highway patrol officers.

The driver of the pickup who sustained severe injuries, was transported to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement said that he was in critical condition.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
