If your loved one suffered an infection that was left untreated by nursing home staff, fight for justice. An untreated infection can result in complications that may cause your loved one severe pain or that may result in their death.
Placing your loved one in a skilled nursing facility is expensive and emotionally difficult. When you discover that they failed to receive the medical care they needed, you may want to pursue civil action.
A Boca Raton untreated infections lawyer can represent your loved one in a civil lawsuit against the responsible party. In the case of an untreated infection, liable parties may include the staff, administration, or both.

Untreated Infections and Nursing Home Settings
When your loved one needs more care than you can provide, a nursing home may serve as the best option for them. You trust the staff to attend to their medical and personal care in a manner that is prompt and professional.
The journal Aging Health (AHe) states that existing health conditions in the elderly make them prone to developing infections. Some of these include:
- Pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Skin and soft tissue infections
- Diarrheal diseases
The Danger of Sepsis
An untreated infection in your loved one can develop into sepsis, a condition that is life-threatening for the elderly. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that sepsis can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death.
Some of the warning signs of possible sepsis include:
- Clammy skin
- High heart rate
- Shortness of breath
- Fever and shivering
Your loved one may be entitled to compensation, if the nursing home staff neglected to properly care for your loved one’s infection, by failing to:
- Assist them with bathing
- Maintain a clean environment
- Seek medical care for their infection
The elderly deserve to enjoy their golden years free from as little pain and discomfort as possible. When an infection develops due to conditions involving neglect, accountability for such actions is important for protecting others.
If your loved one developed sepsis due to nursing home neglect, a Boca Raton untreated infections lawyer can represent your loved one with a civil claim and lawsuit. Call the Law Office of Anidjar & Levine now for a free case evaluation at 1-800-747-3733.
How You Can Help Your Loved One’s Personal Injury Case
The discovery that your loved one’s infection was left untreated is frustrating and maddening. You may live too far from your loved one to visit them on a regular basis. Communicating with them via video chat can help you connect, yet still may not alert you to their possible need for immediate medical care.
Once you discover that your loved one suffers from an untreated infection, take action to seek the help they need and to pursue justice for their pain and suffering.
You can help us with your loved one’s case in the following ways:
- Taking pictures of their infection
- Collecting their medical reports
- Documenting your interaction with staff and administration
The contact information for witnesses—such as family of other patients—is useful and may help your loved one’s case.
Not discussing your case with anyone other than your lawyer is imperative.
Insurance Company Efforts to Settle Your Case
An insurance company may want to settle your case out of court. They may contact you once they learn of your loved one’s situation.
Nursing homes want to protect their reputation and to do so, they may enlist the help of their insurance company in an effort to close the case quickly. Do not give in to any high-pressured tactics designed to give your loved one as little compensation as possible.
At the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine, we represent nursing home residents who are victims of abuse and neglect. While most personal injury cases reach a settlement out of court, we stand ready to take your loved one’s case to trial if we must.
