Negligence and Your Broken Hip or Pelvis
A sudden accident that leaves you seriously injured with a broken hip or pelvis is both painful and expensive. When the accident is the result of negligence on the part of another person, a civil claim and lawsuit for your damages is possible.
To proceed with your personal injury case, we must prove the defendant failed to honor the duty of care they owed to you. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), falls are a leading cause of broken hips.
Most falls are preventable had a property owner used care to repair or to warn of the danger. Examples of property conditions that could create harm for others include:
- Steps with damage or no handrails
- Extension cords or wires stretched across floors
- Wet floors due to cleaning, from spills, or from a leaking roof
- Poorly maintained sidewalks
- Parking lots with no or insufficient lighting
These are not the only examples of negligence that may have contributed to or caused your slip and fall injuries. A Boca Raton broken hips or pelvis lawyer may be able to handle the details of your case so you can focus on your recovery. Potential Complications From a Broken Hip or Pelvis Injury
According to the Mayo Clinic, a broken hip injury is serious, and the immobility caused by such an injury can lead to the following complications:
- Blood clots in the leg veins
- Bed sores
- Infections
- Pneumonia
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), a broken pelvis can also have potentially life-threatening complications, including:
- Nerve or blood vessel damage
- Blood clots, including pulmonary embolism
- Infections
These are just a few examples of how your broken hip or pelvis injury can result in further harmful—and potentially deadly—health conditions.
Recovering Damages After Your Broken Hip or Pelvis Injury
While every case is different, we typically seek the following damages from the liable party in a slip and fall accident:
- Medical bills, including costs associated with your accident and immediate treatment such as medical transport and hospital fees
- Ongoing medical expenses, such as prescription medications, physical or occupational therapy, and rehabilitation
- Loss of income relating to your time away from your job due to recovery for your injuries
- Diminished earning capacity, if you are unable to return to the job you had before the accident
- Pain and suffering related to your broken hip or pelvis injury
It is upsetting to learn that your fall was most likely preventable, had the property owner taken precautions to protect you from harm. Visiting a restaurant or store should not result in extensive financial harm, physical pain, and emotional distress.

Let Us Protect Your Best Interests
If your broken hip or pelvis is the result of a slip and fall at a store or other type of property, it is unlikely that the police responded. A store incident report is most likely the type of document that will serve as valuable evidence in your case. Other types of evidence that may help your case include pictures of the accident scene and the contact information for witnesses.
We may use these types of evidence to prepare your case for negotiations with insurance companies. At the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine, we are familiar with the tactics insurance companies use to protect their clients. These strategies generally involve offering a low amount that does not protect your future medical needs.
Let us help protect your best interests by negotiating with an insurance company on your behalf. If negotiations fail to result in a fair settlement for you, we are ready to take your case to court.
