
A 39-Year-Old North Fort Myers Man Died Tuesday in an Accident While Driving a Scooter at the Intersection of US 41 and Tangelo Road in Punta Gorda.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 2 p.m. and involved a FedEx truck and a scooter.
Troopers said the FedEx truck was driven by a 27-year-old Fort Myers man. The truck was heading south on US 41 when it rear-ended the scooter rider, forcing the North Fort Myers man to be thrown off the motorcycle.
According to FHP, the FedEx driver was driving carelessly when the incident happened.
The 39-year-old scooter rider was pronounced dead on the scene. Investigators said the man was not wearing a helmet.
The southbound lanes of US 41 were closed at the intersection for hours while troopers investigated the crash.
FHP said it is still investigating the crash.
