A 39-Year-Old Cape Coral Man Died After His Vehicle Spun Out and Crashed Into an Oak Tree, Officials Said.
Officers with the Cape Coral Police Department said Jeremy Brendel was speeding southbound on Del Prado Boulevard after leaving the Bella Vida community around 10:40 p.m. As he sped towards a curve in the road, Brendel passed a car and then slammed on his breaks to avoid another vehicle near the 3000 block of Del Prado Blvd.
The wheels on Brendel’s car locked up and the weight of the vehicle transferred to the driver-side which caused the car to spin out, officers said. The car then slammed into an oak tree.
An off-duty Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputy, and someone who witnessed the crash, tried to save Brendel’s life but he was later pronounced dead at the scene, officers said.
Authorities said Brendel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
It’s not known if alcohol was a factor in the crash, but investigators said speed was a factor.
