The History of the Edison Festival of Lights
The Edison name has a strong association with the Fort Myers area. Thomas Edison bought a home on the Caloosahatchee River near Fort Myers in the 1880s. Henry Ford happened to buy a house adjacent to Thomas Edison’s winter home in Fort Myers in 1916. The two properties now serve as tourist attractions known as, The Edison & Ford Winter Estates. The Edison Festival of Light is a long-standing tradition that began in 1938.
The elaborate parades have drawn thousands of people to Fort Myers to see the floats each year. This event was originally called the Pageant of Light and came to be one o the largest and most widely recognized nighttime parades in the Southeastern United States.
The Edison Festival of Light represents a long and proud tradition that has brought light and mirth to the community of Fort Myers for decades.
