The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) did not require Roundup to change its formula. This is because its research does not identify its active ingredient, glyphosate, as a carcinogen. As recently as January 2020, additional EPA scrutiny found that glyphosate posed no significant health risks. EPA administrators are, however, requiring safety measures that govern the use and targeting of glyphosate.
Because other scientific sources continue to cite glyphosate as a possible carcinogen, you should talk to your health care provider about the cause of any illness you experience after exposure to Roundup. A local lawyer can help you determine whether you can pursue financial compensation.
Roundup Has Been Recognized as a Probable Carcinogen
Despite the findings of EPA researchers, other scientific studies point to glyphosate as a probable carcinogen. University of Washington (UW) research notes a significantly increased risk of certain cancers following exposure to Roundup.
UW’s meta-analysis research concentrated on men and women with high levels of exposure to glyphosate. Its research cited a 41% increase in the risk of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Additional research from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) tested 45 products made from oats and found glyphosate levels that exceeded safety standards in tested products.
If you were exposed to Roundup and your health was compromised, we might be able to help you file a personal injury insurance claim or lawsuit. In the meantime, you should consider exploring safer methods of weed control.
Glyphosate Can Compromise Your Health In Non-Cancerous Ways
You might have seen or heard many reports of Roundup’s connection to many forms of cancer. In addition to its carcinogenic properties, the National Library of Medicine (NLM) cites a link between glyphosate and Celiac, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s diseases. It also draws a connection between glyphosate and infertility, miscarriages, birth defects, autism, and obesity.
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) research also cites glyphosate as a possible neurotoxin, meaning it can cause damage to, or the death of, your nerves. Glyphosate is also an eye, nose, and throat irritant and can be poisonous or deadly if swallowed. You can eliminate the risk of further damage to your health by choosing safer weed and lawn maintenance methods and products.
Harmless Alternatives to Roundup Weed Killer and Herbicide
Concerns about the safety of glyphosate—Roundup’s active ingredient—has prompted many people to seek safer weed-control options.
- Pulling emerged weeds
- Heat treating weeds
- All-natural weed killers and herbicides
- Vinegar and botanical oils
You can also be selective when choosing commercially prepared lawn products. Read labels and ensure the product you choose does not contain glyphosate or similar chemicals. Some of these methods might be more time-consuming or require greater physical exertion but they eliminate the potential harm of Roundup.
Recoverable Damages in a Roundup Lawsuit
Whether contact with or exposure to Roundup leads to cancer, nerve damage, or another health care challenge, you could be entitled to financial recovery. You can ask for compensation for current and upcoming medical expenses, including prescription medications, hospital admissions, physical therapy, and assistive medical devices. You can also request compensation for:
- Past income loss
- Future income loss
- Pain and suffering
This list is not exhaustive and your potential for financial recovery should be discussed with your legal team. You might also receive funeral and burial expenses if you lost a loved one to a Roundup-related health condition. Your lawyer will help you uncover all the expenses and losses you are entitled to.
Explore your financial compensation options today. Do not delay contacting a personal injury lawyer because the state’s statute of limitations can run out. States may have different time limits for wrongful death and personal injury, so you must be sure to file your lawsuit as quickly as possible.
