Did a fire or burst pipe destroy your property? Was a hurricane, tropical storm, or flood responsible for the wind or water damage your home endured? Few events can throw you and your family into disarray like having your property destroyed due to circumstances beyond your control.
If one of these events negatively impacted your home, you are entitled to recover damages in accordance with your homeowner’s insurance policy. If you are having difficulty understanding exactly what losses are covered in your claim or have received a settlement offer you do not believe is adequate to cover your losses, a lawyer may be able to help.
Do not give up on receiving payment for your covered losses, and do not attempt to negotiate with the insurance company on your own. Discuss your claim with a Property Claim Lawyer in St. Augustine, FL by calling the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine.
Understand Your Rights Regarding Homeowner’s Insurance Coverage
When you protect your house with home insurance coverage, it can be disappointing and disheartening when your insurer denies or lowballs your insurance claim for covered losses when your property is damaged.
In Florida, you have specific rights, known as the Homeowner Claims Bill of Rights, that compel your insurance company to deal with you fairly and openly. You should be aware of several important rights you are entitled to, including:
- The right to have your insurance company notify you within two weeks that they have received your claim for damage to your property.
- The right to have your insurance company notify you in 30 days or less that they received your proof-of-loss statement.
- The right to have your insurance company notify you that they are covering all or part of your losses.
- The right to have your insurance company notify you that they are fully denying or further investigating your claim.
- The right to have your insurance company make a payment on your claim in ninety days or less.
Your St. Augustine personal injury lawyer can help you understand all the rights you are owed as a homeowner in Florida. You made insurance policy payments in good faith, and those payments entitle you to certain protections. If all your rights have not been adhered to by your insurer, seek the help of a property claim lawyer in St. Augustine, FL.
