The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal accident at the Jacksonville Port Authority after a woman, who was working on the side of a pier near one of the cargo ships Thursday afternoon, was hit by a vehicle.
According to JSO, the woman was transported to a local hospital where she died.
Authorities said the vehicle that hit the victim was a truck used to transport containers throughout the port. JSO described the vehicle as being similar in size to a semi-truck.
The woman was a Jacksonville Port tenant and not an actual employee, JSO said. She was the only person injured during the incident.
JSO said they believe the incident was “purely accidental.”
Detectives are currently viewing surveillance video and interviewing witnesses.
One of the piers at the port has been temporarily closed while officers and crime scene units conduct their investigation.

Glen Levine, from the Law Firm of Anidjar and Levine, comments on this crash: “A woman from JaxPort was killed after an accident at the Jacksonville Port Authority. If you or someone you love was recently injured or killed in a car, truck, SUV or motorcycle accident, an attorney may be able to help you file a lawsuit to recover compensation for the expenses you are burdened with. The process of collecting damages from the party at fault is often complicated; however, our firm has the experience needed to navigate these types of claims.”
