Law Enforcement Officials Say They are Investigating an Accident on St Andrews Boulevard After a 20-Year-Old Bicycle Rider was Hit by a Driver in a Minivan.
According to officials, the accident happened on the St Andrews Boulevard at Lely. Police say a 20-year-old male riding a bicycle on the driveway was struck by a 32-year-old driver in a Mazda minivan.
Officials did not give an official statement saying why the driver in the Mazda struck the victim on the bike. They say the incident is still under investigation as they examine the actual cause of the crash. Police stated that no other vehicles or people were involved in the crash.
EMS arrived at the scene of the accident soon after it happened to administer on-site first aid to the injured bicyclist. Emergency crews reported that the man suffered serious injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The Mazda minivan driver was not injured and was questioned by officials at the accident site, authorities added.
Police say there is no decision yet on if the van driver will be charged, meanwhile, the accident remains under investigation.
