According to the news release by officials, the accident happened when a 40-year-old driver in a Nissan Titan was driving on Florida A1A behind a tractor-trailer when the unexpected happened.
Law enforcement authorities reported the traffic accident on Florida A1A that left a driver injured, after parts from a semi-truck struck the driver’s windshield.
Reports say the brake drum and tire thread separated from one of the tractor-trailer’s wheels. The brake drum then bounced off the road and struck the windshield of the Titan traveling behind the trailer. The driver in the Titan came to a stop after the collision with the trailer’s brake drum.
EMS arrived to the scene of the crash and administered on-site first aid to the driver of the Titan. EMS reported that the driver was critically injured before taking him to a nearby hospital by ambulance.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the crash and remained at the scene to speak with officials.
Authorities say that the incident is currently under investigation and no other details were released to the public.
