According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, some studies suggest that Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate, is a possible neurotoxin. Because neurotoxins are toxic to the nervous system, exposure to Roundup may damage nerves.
Review your exposure to Roundup weed killer with a healthcare professional who can test for damaged nerves and help determine the cause. You should also review the cause of your nerve damage with a member of the personal injury team at a local law firm who can help define your potential for financial recovery and determine your next steps.
The Price of Living with Nerve Damage
Peripheral nerve damage can make everyday movements painful. Mayo Clinic research cites exposure to toxic substances as a possible cause of nerve damage. Peripheral neuropathy—damage to the nerves outside of your brain and spinal cord—is characterized by the following symptoms:
- Increasing numbness
- Prickly sensations
- Throbbing pain
- Sensitivity to touch
- Loss of balance
- Weakened muscles
In addition to these symptoms, in cases where motor nerves are damaged, you might also experience the onset of paralysis. Because peripheral nerve damage can affect more than one nerve, seek immediate medical attention if you recognize any of these symptoms. Your health care provider can provide you with a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan.
If you or someone you love was exposed to Roundup and experienced one or more of the warning signs and symptoms listed above, a lawyer in your area may be able to help you seek financial compensation for your medical expenses and physical pain.
Recovering Your Medical Expenses
According to the Mayo Clinic, after running a battery of tests to reach a diagnosis, medical care for patients with nerve damage can include pain management, seizure control, antidepressants, physical therapy, and surgery.
If Roundup caused your nerve damage, you may be able to receive financial compensation to cover the cost of your medical and other expenses related to your nerve damage.
If Roundup’s manufacturer is found to be responsible for the damage their product caused, you may be able to recoup the following expenses:
- Current and future medical care
- Current and future loss of income
- Physical pain and suffering
- Mental and emotional anguish
A personal injury lawyer may be able to help you accurately define the cost of your medical care and the amount of income you lost. They may also help you calculate the value of the pain and suffering and mental distress of living with chronic nerve damage.
Fight for Your Financial Recovery
It can be frustrating and stressful when you are faced with medical challenges in addition to filing an insurance claim or lawsuit. Your lawyer may be able to help you navigate the personal injury filing process so you can focus on your physical recovery. They may:
- Read and review your medical records
- Read and review the product label
- Obtain and review glyphosate studies
- Assign a monetary value to your claim
- Update you on your claim’s progress
Learn More About Filing Your Injury Claim
If contact with or exposure to Roundup was responsible for your current medical condition, you may be entitled to financial recovery from its manufacturer. Filing a personal injury or product liability lawsuit for financial compensation is time-sensitive. The time you have to file a compensation lawsuit is defined by your state’s statute of limitations, which gives you a certain amount of time to hold the at-fault product manufacturer financially responsible for your injury-related expenses.
If you miss the filing deadline, you will likely not be able to file your lawsuit or hold the at-fault party financially liable for your expenses and losses. That could mean you and your family are forced to absorb the cost of your medical expenses, lost income, and other expenses that stem from your exposure to Roundup.
