Our Buenaventura Lakes slip and fall accident lawyers understand the devastating impact of an accident that someone else’s negligence or wrongdoing caused. As a result, the Law Offices of Anidjar & Levine helps our clients with compensation cases involving injuries ranging from fractures to life-changing disabilities.
However, you must prove legal liability and negligence to pursue compensation. The challenging part is proving the liable party either knew or should have known about the condition or hazard that caused the accident. Handling a complex legal case may be far from your mind while focusing on your recovery. For this reason, many injured people work with us to manage their cases while they focus on their recovery.
How Do I Know if I Have a Slip and Fall Case?
Property owners and business managers are responsible for maintaining their premises in a reasonably safe condition to reduce the risk of harm to visitors and employees. If you were injured in a slip or fall, you may be able to request payment from the liable person or organization if their negligence contributed to the accident.
Examples of risk and negligence include:
- Unattended spills on the floor
- Ice, snow, or rain creating slip hazards
- Worn carpets or loose flooring posing a trip hazard
- Poor lighting affecting visibility
- Poorly maintained floors, handrails, or stairs
- Clutter, such as cables or cords on the ground
- Sudden changes in the floor levels
Often, the first step in seeking compensation is to explore your legal options during a free consultation. Here, you can evaluate a law firm’s prior experience in managing similar personal injury claims and learn about possible next stages in your case.

How Much Compensation Could I Claim?
No two accidents are identical, so there is no fixed dollar amount for the compensation you could receive. Also, everyone we help faces unique challenges because of their injuries. As such, our attorneys work closely with you to gain a clear understanding of how the accident impacted your life physically, emotionally, and financially.
As a general guide, compensation in a lawsuit can cover expenses, such as:
- Current and ongoing medical bills and rehabilitation costs
- Lost wages and compensation if your ability to work in the future is affected
- Pain, suffering, and inconvenience
- Necessary changes to your home to provide for your care needs
- Loss of enjoyment of life if the accident affects your ability to engage in social and leisure activities
- Other injury-related damages
If you lost a loved one in a slip and fall accident in Florida, we extend our condolences. Surviving estate beneficiaries may seek financial compensation via a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible party. The state allows two years from the decedent’s death date to pursue legal action, per Florida Statutes § 95.11(4)(d).
What to Do After a Slip and Fall Accident
Many injured parties are unsure about what to do when a slip and fall accident occurs. Therefore, we have prepared the following guidance to briefly explain how to protect your best interests healthwise and from a legal standpoint.
- Seek immediate medical attention
- Ask for a manager and file an accident report
- Collect contact information from any accident witnesses
- Take pictures of your injuries and the accident scene with your phone if possible
Even if you feel you were not seriously hurt, symptoms may not present until the days or weeks following the accident, such as a concussion, for example. It is important that your doctor diagnose and treat any injuries to prevent further harm. Documenting your injuries can also help your legal case.
Be sure to notify the property owner or manager and have them create an accident report. Ask for a copy of the accident report; however, politely refuse to sign anything without having an injury attorney review the paperwork beforehand. You are not obligated to sign the report; in fact, doing so could negatively impact your case.
Get Contact Information From People Who Saw Your Slip and Fall
If anyone saw the accident, collect their names and contact information where possible. Their testimony can help you prove your case. Again, avoid discussing about what happened or who is to blame; anything you say can also be used against you.
The more evidence you can gather and preserve at the accident scene, the stronger your case will be. Photograph the scene, and record video footage of the dangerous situation or hazard. It is also most helpful to take photos of your injuries and other information that shows how the accident occurred.
