A 50-Year-Old Pedestrian was Killed on Thursday Night in a Fatal Hit and Run Crash, Miami Beach Police Said.
Authorities said they were able to locate the car following a Crimestoppers tip which led them to the damaged KIA Sorento ditched behind an apartment building in the 3100 block of Northwest 131 Street in Opa Locka on Friday.
The vehicle’s front right bumper is damaged and the mirror is missing.
Police say the unidentified driver hit a man in his fifties at the intersection of 5th street and Michigan Avenue at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The driver of the KIA Sorento has not been found.
“The vehicle had the right of way. The pedestrian did not. But that driver chose not to stop, not do the right thing, disobeyed the law and fled which resulted in this man’s death,” said Ernesto Rodriguez with the Miami Beach Police department
Rodriguez says the car, which was a rental, will be towed to the police department.
“This case is a forensics type case. Crime scene investigators will comb through the vehicle and find any DNA evidence that will tell us who was driving at the time the victim was struck and later died,” said Rodriguez.
The victim hasn’t been identified pending notification to the next of kin.
