A Child was Rushed to the Hospital and Later Pronounced Dead After Being Hit by a Car in Homestead.
Authorities said the deadly hit-and-run happened just after 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Redland Road, just north of Lucy Street.
Homestead Police Department said the 5-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle that did not stay at the scene.
The boy was transported by helicopter to Kendall Regional Medical Center in critical condition, police said. He was later pronounced dead.
Detectives obtained surveillance video which showed a white pickup truck towing a U-Haul double axle trailer leaving the area around the time the boy was struck.
Police said they would like to speak to the driver of that vehicle, and that they are only considered a person of interest at this time.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Homestead Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
