A 55-year-old woman was killed in an accident after a driver fell asleep at the wheel on Julia Tuttle Causeway.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was a passenger in a vehicle that was westbound on Julia Tuttle Causeway along Interstate 195 when the driver, 24-year-old woman, fell asleep at the wheel.
The 2012 Honda Civic went off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment, and became airborne. The vehicle then struck another embankment and overturned ejecting the passenger from the vehicle.
The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The Mid-Beach driver sustained life threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Neither of the victims was wearing a seat belt.
The Florida Highway Patrol is presently investigating the accident.
