Report says a wrong-way accident on Interstate 75, just west of the US-27 exit on Alligator Alley, has killed a Miccosukee police officer and another driver.
According to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Alvaro Feola, a 32-year-old Curtis Woolwine was driving westbound on the eastbound left lane of I-75 south when the accident happened. He was reportedly driving his black 2016 black Chevy Sonic.
Meanwhile, Steven Greco, a 40-year-old Miccosukee officer was driving to his home in Davie from work in his black 2018 Dodge Charger when the crash occurred.
It was reported that the off-duty officer was extricated from his car and then airlifted to Broward Health Hospital in Fort Lauderdale where he died. FHP Lt. Feola said Woolwine died on the scene on Alligator Alley.
FHP is investigating whether Woolwine, who lived in Hollywood, had been drinking before the accident.
According to the FHP, Greco was traveling eastbound in the left lane of I-75 South when Woolwine’s Sonic smashed into his Charger’s front end.
Debris from the cars scattered over the lanes and grassy median which led to closure of roadway for hours.
The crash is still under investigation.
