A fiery accident on a major highway stranded hundreds of motorists on Palmetto Expressway as traffic came to a standstill, police said.
Florida Highway Patrol reported that the fiery accident happened on Palmetto Expressway. Officials said a Toyota SUV collided with a GMC SUV as they were both heading south on Palmetto Expressway. Law enforcement did not say why the SUVs collided and has not released any more information regarding how the accident occurred.
The GMC overturned during the crash and the driver suffered a fatal injury. According to the police, they found one of the SUV drivers in a traumatic condition. Consequently, shortly after EMS arrived, they airlifted him from the scene with a life support system to the nearest hospital.
He allegedly suffered trauma to his head and chest. The EMS spokesperson said they are hopeful he will survive the injuries.
