Authorities reported two people were critically injured in a crash on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard and Michigan Avenue in Fort Myers.

According to authorities, the driver of a Ford Taurus was driving north on Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard. Suddenly he traveled across the northbound lanes entering the median. He then began traveling in the southbound lane into the path of a blue Toyota Corolla. Both cars collided head on.  

The driver of the Toyota sustained critical injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the Fords only had minor injuries and was treated at the scene.  The passenger in the Ford was taken to the nearest local hospital with critical injuries.

Veronica Shoemaker Boulevard was closed for several hours for emergency crews to clear the scene.  It has since reopened.

Authorities confirm the crash remains under investigation. Details of the individuals involved in the crash have not been released by the authorities.  No other details were immediately available.
