Authorities reported a traffic accident involving an tractor trailer on State Road 31 in Fort Myers that left three persons injured.

According to the news release by the authorities, the accident happened when two tractor trailers collided.  One 18-wheeler commercial vehicle was pulling out onto the road and the driver of a moving truck did not see the 18-wheeler in time to avoid the collision.

The driver of the 18-wheel sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the hospital. A passenger in the moving truck was seriously injured and was also transported to the hospital. The driver of the moving truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The road was shut down to allow emergency crews to clear the debris and allow investigators do their work. The road has since reopened and normal flow has resumed.

Police say the crash remains an active investigation.
