Three people have been severely injured after two vehicles collided into each other on Merrill Road.

Troopers said, three people were involved in the wreck that happened near Wedgefield Boulevard on Merrill Road.

Crash reports say a vehicle approaching from Merrill Road had ran into another vehicle on Wedgefield Boulevard. The first vehicle, a Nissan Altima, was speeding while approaching the intersection.

Police say the driver of the Nissan vehicle was a 31-year-old man from Jacksonville. He was not wearing his seatbelt when the crash occurred, officials said.

The driver had a severe head injury and was taken to the hospital.

The two occupants of the second vehicle were also injured. Their identities have not yet been revealed by the police. They are also receiving treatment at the hospital.

The crash is under investigation.
