According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Jacksonville man who was driving in the I-295 North express lanes in the Mandarin area, has died after losing control of the car.
It was reported by troopers that the crash happened south of the Old St. Augustine Road exit.
Troopers said, the man was driving a Grand Cherokee and crossed over the express lane dividers prior to the accident. His vehicle collided with a Chevrolet Camaro in the inside lane. FHP stated that the Grand Cherokee crossed over the express lanes once more and then overturned several times.
The car came to a rest within the express lanes and the inside shoulder. That driver, identified as a 34-year-old Thomas Clarke, was taken to Orange Park Medical Center and pronounced dead.
Officials said, the 51-year-old woman driving the Camaro was taken to the hospital and later released.
Report says, I-295 northbound lanes were closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.
