A 65-year-old Naples man has died a day after an accident while teaching his son how to drive, officials said.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, the deceased was teaching his 34-year-old son from Colombia how to drive, specifically how to park when the unfortunate incident happened.
The crash happened at the First Baptist Church of Naples at 3000 Orange Blossom drive just after 8 p.m. according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
Troopers said while being guided into a parking space by his father, who was outside of the vehicle, the son stepped on the gas. The SUV launched over the parking curbs and hit the man.
Authorities said the Naples man was rushed to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead the next day.
The 34-year-old man faces a felony charge of driving without a license resulting in a serious injury, troopers said.
The Executive Pastor of First Baptist said he was holding a meeting at the church at the time of the incident and a member of the church rushed out to give the 65-year-old CPR before rescue crews arrived.
