Report says a 27-year-old man has died after he was struck by two cars while trying to cross a foggy Interstate 95 in Broward County.
The man reportedly identified as Skyler Mark Jones of Fort Lauderdale was attempting to cross the interstate’s southbound lanes from west to east when a 2014 Honda CR-V collided with him.
FHP says the extent of the crash left him in the inside center lane by the Hallandale Beach Boulevard exit. According to troopers, he was then struck by another car that fled the scene.
It happened when Broward County and the rest of South Florida was still under a dense fog advisory.
A report was given by the National Weather Service in South Florida. It says driving conditions were “very hazardous” with visibility dropping as low as 1/4-mile to “near-zero visibility” across South Florida at the time.
It’s still unclear if the foggy weather was the sole reason that the crash occurred.
All of the interstate’s southbound lanes by Pembroke Road, including the express lanes, were shut down. Traffic was redirected to exit the interstate, according to Total Traffic Miami.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
