According to Fort Myers authorities, a preteen pedestrian, 11 years of age, was severely injured after been struck by a car on Shadow Glen Way.
The accident happened on Shadow Glen Way, near Independence Way, the report says. The preteen boy was walking along the street when a 2013 Honda Civic traveling southbound struck him.
It was reported that the 2013 Honda Civic was driven by a 36-year-old man who was allegedly distracted while driving. An eyewitness added that he was receiving a phone call when he struck the boy.
The 11-year-old has been taken to a nearby hospital having sustained severe injuries, officials reported. The driver was not moving at a high rate of speed.
The report says the driver was not injured and he remained on the scene of the accident to speak with police. According to the police, the investigation is still ongoing and no charges have been filed at this time.
