According to a JSO’s spokesperson, one driver suffered critical injuries in a twelve-vehicle collision on Philips Highway.
The massive collision shut down a busy stretch of the highway and backed up traffic.
Upon arrival, emergency responders found a 39-year-old man suffering from trauma due to injuries he sustained in the accident. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of Philips Highway.
The incident began when a tractor-trailer sideswiped the victim’s vehicle, which then caused it to collide with two other vehicles. Subsequently, the tractor-trailer collided with at least one other vehicle and caused a chain reaction of less serious collisions among multiple vehicles.
Paramedics transported several other people that were involved in the multiple-vehicle accident to nearby hospitals.
Meanwhile, officials rerouted backed-up traffic, thereby affecting traffic flow in both directions of the highway. This also caused congestion on other roadways as well, according to reports.
The crash remains under investigation by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
