One person in a critical condition has been hospitalized after an accident between a motorcycle and a vehicle in Fort Lauderdale.

According to Fort Lauderdale Police Department, a motorcycle and a Chevrolet collided on East Las Olas Boulevard.

Report says the driver of the Chevrolet was traveling above the speed limit when the accident happened. He was trying to change lanes to pass the motorcycle when he clipped the rear tire of the bike. This caused the motorcycle driver to lose control and flip off of the bike, police said.

Authorities reported that the motorcyclist, who was in his 30’s, sustained serious injuries from the crash incidence. He has been transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. According to reports, the driver of the Chevy was not injured.

Police say South Miami Avenue will be shut down to allow crews to clear the debris from the site. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

Police are still investigating and charges are pending against the driver of the Chevy.
