North Federal Highway Closed After Accident Involving Semi-Truck; Three Hospitalized

According to police, North Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale was closed after an accident involving a semi-truck and another vehicle.

A police spokesperson said officers closed both lanes of North Federal Highway, at Coral Ridge Country Club area, when a semi-truck collided with a Honda Crosstour. The car suffered heavy damage and appeared to be pinned underneath the truck, according to an eyewitnesses report.

The driver of the Crosstour and its two other passengers reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident. Emergency responders extricated them from the wreck and then paramedics immediately transported them to a nearby hospital.

The 34-year-old driver of the Honda sustained life-threatening injuries, EMS said. Police have yet to release the medical condition and further details regarding the two other passengers. Authorities reported that they were all wearing their seat belts at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the semi-truck driver did not receive any injuries from the crash. A police investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing.
