Police reported that a 27-year-old motorcycle driver is in critical condition after he was struck from the rear into oncoming traffic on Michigan Avenue.
Officials say, the 27-year-old driver of a motorcycle reportedly sustained severe injuries following an accident on Michigan Avenue where he was hit from behind by an elderly motorist.
It was reported that the accident occurred when the motorcyclist’s was braking on the road and the 71-year-old driver of a Hyundai reacted late and rear-ended the bike. The motorcycle then careened off into oncoming traffic where the driver managed to avoid striking oncoming vehicles. Police reported that he did end up crashing the motorcycle on the side of the road.
EMS arrived to administer first aid to the injured driver and said the motorcyclist sustained head trauma and that he was not wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital while the Hyundai driver was not injured in the accident.
Witnesses said, that the driver of the Hyundai was not traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened.
The incident is currently under investigation and no other details were released to the public.
