Police report that a 27-year-old motorcyclist is in critical condition after he was hit from the rear into oncoming traffic.
Officials say the 27-year-old driver of a motorcycle was hit from behind by an elderly motorist on McDonald Street. The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries in the accident.
It was reported that the accident started when the motorcyclist was braking on the road and the 71-year-old driver of a Hyundai reacted late and rear-ended the bike. The motorcycle then careened off into oncoming traffic where the driver managed to avoid striking oncoming vehicles. Police reported that he did end up crashing the motorcycle into the side of the road.
EMS arrived to administer first aid to the injured driver and say the motorcyclist sustained head trauma and that he was not wearing a helmet. The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital while the Hyundai driver was not injured in the accident.
Witnesses said that the driver of the Hyundai was not traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened.
Authorities say that the incident is currently under investigation and no other details were released to the public.
