Authorities are investigating a gruesome accident on Butler Boulevard and Belfort Road in Fort Myers that left a motorcyclist injured.
According to officials, the crash happened when the rider of a motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Butler Boulevard. The driver of a 2004 Ford F-150 truck slammed on his brakes to avoid colliding with the vehicle in front of him. As he swerved to avoid the collision, he drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist.
Paramedics responded to the scene of the crash and administered first aid to the victims. The driver of the truck had minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police say the crash remains under investigation and no further details were immediately released. Traffic was heavy in the area due to blockades but the road has since opened.
