Miami Police Department is still investigating an accident that has left a woman in critical condition on Bird Avenue.

Authorities say the crash happened at the intersection of Bird Avenue and McDonald Street. Report says a driver operating a 2013 Honda Xterra was headed northbound on the Bird Avenue when the accident occurred.

The driver of the Honda failed to observe the red light at the intersection and crashed head-on with another vehicle. The vehicle that was struck was driven by a woman driving though the green light, heading south on McDonald Street. She was driving a Toyota Corolla.

Emergency rescue workers say the impact left the woman in the Toyota with several other injuries. EMS administered first aid treatment to the victim before airlifting her to the nearest hospital for treatment, police said.

The other driver in the Honda Xterra suffered only minor bruises to his head which was treated at the scene by EMS.

The identities of the victim and the driver have not been released.

Authorities say the crash is still under investigation and say no charges have been filed yet.
