Miami Police Officer Hospital After Crash In Coral Gables Report says a Miami police officer was involved in a car crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of U.S.

Report says, a Miami police officer was involved in a car crash that occurred in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 near Riviera Drive in Coral Gables.

According to Coral Gables police report, the driver of the Kia was traveling in the opposite direction of Officer Alain Guerra’s police cruiser when the accident happened. The driver somehow lost control and swerved into oncoming traffic, striking the officer’s car, report says.

Officers added “…lost control and ended up on the other side, in the southbound lanes of the highway, where he was struck by a Miami Police Officer who was heading home.”

The Miami Police Officer was identified as Guerra, who has been on the force for about 11 years. He reportedly sustained a broken wrist and was taken to Doctors Hospital for treatment.

Police said, officers arrived at the scene to find the Kia abandoned, but at least one witness told officers he or she spotted a woman running away from the scene.

Police said, the woman was taken into custody for questioning.

Southbound and northbound lanes of U.S. 1 were closed for hours after the collision; however, all lanes have since reopened.

Marc Anidjar, from the Law Firm of Anidjar and Levine, comments on this crash:  “This was a serious accident that left an officer seriously injured.  Accidents like this are one of the most dangerous kinds of accidents. This type of accident usually happens because of driver error, meaning they are preventable. Sadly, the innocent victims of these crashes are rendered powerless: often, there’s nothing you can do when an oncoming vehicle is bearing down on you.  We wish that all involved have a speedy recovery from their injuries in this terrible accident.”
