Mayport Road Hit-And-Run Accident Seriously Injured A Bicyclist

Confirmed by Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, a man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run accident on Mayport Road.

According to JSO’s briefing, the man had been riding his bicycle along Mayport Road, also known as A1A, when he was struck by a car.

Report says the driver got out of his car, but when an off-duty Atlantic Beach police officer stopped to help he got back in and took off.

It was reported that the officer was able to catch up to the driver after a short pursuit just a few blocks down the road. He was reportedly arrested and now faces charges of fleeing and resisting alongside the charges he will face for hitting the bicyclist.

All southbound lanes near the 2100 block of Mayport Road were shut down while authorities investigated the crash. However, the road has since been re-opened.
