According to a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol, a man was killed in a vehicle crash in East Naples.
Troopers were at the scene of the crash in East Naples. The victim, later identified as 45-year-old Lazaro Venegas of Naples, was traveling westbound in the inside lane of Radio Road. He was in a Ford Mustang with one passenger traveling toward Dartmouth Drive.
According to the news release, Venegas was driving at a high rate of speed and failed to slow down. Venegas’ vehicle reportedly struck the rear of another vehicle, a Honda Odyssey, and left the paved roadway.
Upon leaving the roadway, report says Venegas’ vehicle struck a palm tree in the center median and overturned. The vehicle came to a stop facing south in the westbound Radio Road lanes. After striking a wooden fence, the Odyssey came to a stop facing east on the north grassy shoulder of Radio Road.
It was reported that Venegas died on the scene.
Report says the passenger of the Odyssey and Venegas’ passenger both sustained minor injuries. The driver of the Odyssey left unscathed.
The crash is currently under investigation.
