Report says five people were transported to the hospital after a two car accident near I-95.

According to the official report, the accident happened at the intersection between Sistrunk Boulevard and Northwest 6th Street close to I-95. The 28-year-old driver of a GMC SUV ran the red light and was struck by a minivan crossing the intersection.

Reports say there were seven occupants in the Nissan minivan at the time of the crash. The 31-year-old driver of the minivan could not avoid hitting the SUV, which rapidly intersected its path. The driver of the SUV was the sole occupant in the vehicle when the crash occurred.

EMS reported that the driver of the SUV and four occupants of the minivan were taken to the nearest hospital. The driver of the SUV was reported with a possible head injury according to first responders.

The reason the SUV driver didn’t notice the red light is still unknown. Alcohol or a distraction may have been a factor, police said.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
