Fatality After Car Rammed Into Historic Theater in Overtown

According to a crash report being investigated by Miami Police, a car reportedly hit a historic theater in Overtown and left one person dead.

Report says officers responded to the scene near Northwest 2nd Avenue and 8th Street in Overtown where the car involved could be seen after ramming in the historic Lyric Theater.

It was reported by detectives that the driver of a silver 2009 Chevy Cobalt was headed in the northbound direction. Subsequently, the driver lost control and crashed into a pole before hitting the building.

Miami Fire Rescue transported the driver to Ryder Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. Investigators have not released the victim’s identity or determined what caused the crash

As the investigation continues, drivers were advised to avoid the area and take an alternative route.
