Report says a Miami-Dade police officer died in an ATV accident after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a tree.
The police officer was reportedly transported via ambulance to Jackson South from the accident scene. The accident occurred at Southwest 211st Street and South Dixie Highway. According to the report, the officer, whose named has not be revealed by the officials, later died of his injuries.
Juan Perez, Miami-Dade Police Director said, “We stand united with the family and the children of the officer.” It was reported that the officer was with at least two other officers on patrol along an embankment near the canal when the fatal accident occurred.
Perez, wearing a black mourning band across his badge, spoke about the state of his department after losing one of their own. According to the report, Perez said “We’re down on a knee right know, bended knee, but we’ll stand up again for the officer and his family, and we’ll continue to support them.”
It is not known if the other police officer or any other person was injured in the incidence. Police are still investigating the ATV accident.
