The Florida Highway patrol reports a fatal crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 in Fort Myers that has left at least one person dead.

According to authorities at the scene, the crash involved a car and a tractor trailer. The accident happened at the intersection of North Tamiami Trail and Tara Boulevard.  Details regarding the accident are not available at this time.

Drivers were strongly advised to avoid the area due to heavy delays.  It was confirmed at the time of this report that one lane was opened in both directions.

Authorities are still investigating the crash. More information would be available once investigation is complete. Details of the victim who died has not been released by the officials.
