A fatal accident on SR 16 and International Golf Parkway in St. Augustine has led to the death of a passenger and left a driver in critical condition.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, as the vehicle traveled east on SR 16, the driver attempted a left-hand turn but entered the pathway of another vehicle. Consequently, the second vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the turning car.
Officials have identified the names of the victims involved in the crash. Melanie Padgett, 38, and Leslie Blodgett, 39, were in the second vehicle. Emergency responders transported Padgett to a nearby hospital; however, medical staff declared her dead upon arrival. Blodgett is in critical condition; she is being treated at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the eighteen-year-old driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Presently, authorities do not know whether alcohol was a contributing factor in the fatal crash. Police are investigating the cause of the accident. At this time, authorities have not released any further information.
