According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash involved a sport utility vehicle that rolled over after a collision in Jacksonville.

FHP stated that the two-vehicle crash occurred on westbound J. Turner Butler Boulevard, near Southside Boulevard.  A GMC pickup was reportedly switching lanes when suddenly it rear-ended a Cadillac Escalade. Subsequently, the force of the impact caused the SUV to swerve off the road. Then, the SUV hit a light pole and rolled, Troopers said.

According to the police report, only one of the children was wearing a seat belt. Troopers said six of the people injured were minors, between the ages of 8 and 14. Additionally, two of the children and one adult passenger sustained severe injuries.

The driver of the pickup was cited with careless driving and driving without a valid license, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The man was reportedly uninjured in the crash.

Jacksonville firefighters said three selfless and compassionate women stopped to render aid to the victims until rescue crews arrived at the scene of the crash.

Comments:

Marc Anidjar, from the Law Firm of Anidjar and Levine, comments on this crash:  “This was a serious accident that left eight people injured, including six children.  This crash reminds us that everyone should wear a seat belt and children should be securely fastened in child safety seats when traveling in a vehicle.  We wish everyone involved a speedy recovery from this crash.”
