Driver Injured In Fiery Head-On Collision In St. Johns County

Authorities say a fatal crash that occurred on SR-A1A Friday night has led to serious injuries.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the accident involved a BMW and a Tesla in a head-on collision. After the collision, the BMW caught fire and the driver was fatally injured.

The BMW overturned as a result of the crash and the driver has been transported to the hospital after being ejected from the car, FHP said.  Because of the severity of the crash, it took 3 tow trucks and 3 fire rescue vehicles to clear the wreckage. At this time there is no indication of which driver was at fault and no citations were issued from the crash. 

Officials said they are still investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.
