Authorities said a driver was transported to the hospital by rescue crews after he slammed into a tree in West Miami-Dade.
Florida Highway Patrol and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said they responded to the scene of the crash in the area of Southwest 104th Avenue and Eighth Street.
Video from the scene captured the mangled dark-colored Honda sedan involved in the crash.
Investigators said the victim was heading eastbound when he lost control and hit the tree. There was no passenger in the car.
Troopers said a witness told them the patient was driving recklessly before the crash.
The impact caused part of the vehicle to split in half.
The victim was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.
Troopers shut down the roadway near the scene of the crash while they investigated. It has since reopened to traffic.
