An arrest has been made of a 29-year-old who was involved in a fiery crash in Davie that caused serious bodily damage. His passenger, Eli Bragi, remains in coma.
Police say a group of friends were driving home when they saw the crash in the 3600 block of Southwest 136th Avenue in Davie. One of the witnesses said they saw a car wrapped around the tree. There was fire underneath the hood and smoke coming out already.
He went further to add that the first thing he did was to try to open the passenger’s door but it was jammed. Both the driver and his passenger were trapped inside the car. They were in and out of consciousness.
They frantically worked to free the critically injured victims just before the car went up in flames.
Davie police said that both men were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.
Authorities say the driver is facing serious charges including DUI, causing serious bodily injuries and reckless driving. It was later determined that the man had a .22 percent blood alcohol level one hour after the crash with an unconfirmed positive test for cannabinoids. He was also going at a minimum speed of 70 to 73 mph when the crash happened.
Police say his passenger, Eli Bragi, remains in coma.
