Miami Beach Police Department are investigating a crash that has left a driver and his passenger in critical condition after their car hit a tree on Alton Road.
City officials reported that the crash happened on Alton Road in Bayshore, Miami. The driver reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and veered out of the lane and into the center of the road, where it struck a nearby tree before coming to a stop.
Eyewitnesses said, the driver was heading southbound on Alton Road with a passenger on board when he lost control of the vehicle, crashing his 2014 Kia Rio into a large tree at the median.
The crash left the driver with a neck injury while the passenger was left with serious injuries to his head and arm.
Troopers said, the passenger was airlifted to the nearest Medical Center for treatment. He was taken into surgery immediately.
His state has not been released to the press at this time. The driver was also transported to the hospital for medical treatment.
No details on the identities of the driver and passenger have been released. No charges have been filed at the time of this report.
